CHENNAI: Following abolition of ranking system in the Plus Two board exam, Tamil Nadu has restricted private schools from placing banners highlighting ‘achievements’ of their top scorers and advertising it in newspapers.
The school education department on Thursday (May 11) announced that in order to reduce stress levels among students and parents, it will not release the list of toppers in Class XII Board exams from this year.
Defeating the very purpose, several private educational institutions had placed banners outside their school premises and crowded public spaces highlighting the number of centum scorers and students who have scored above 90 per cent with their photos.
Some advertised in newspapers and TV channels in an attempt to attract more admissions.
This issue was brought to the attention of the government and responding to this, the school education secretary T Udhayachandran on Tuesday instructed all schools not to place such banners, posters or advertise in newspapers.
The Director of matriculation schools has been instructed to take necessary action against violators.
