CHENNAI: Terming the decision taken at the all-party meeting in Karnataka to move the Supreme Court against the formation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) as a political move, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Saturday told Express, “Petitions on the Cauvery dispute have reached a finality with the February 16 verdict. The SC had made it clear that no appeal can be made against the order for 15 years and as such, the riparian States (including Karnataka) can not move the court within this period. So, Tamil Nadu will go by the SC order.”
Meanwhile, DMK working president and leader of Opposition in the Assembly MK Stalin, in a statement here, charged Karnataka with trying to complicate the Cauvery dispute further through the all-party meeting. “To decide the future course of action and to pre-empt Karnataka’s move further, the Tamil Nadu government should convene an all-party meet immediately. Besides, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami should lead a delegation of all-party MPs to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urge him to implement the SC verdict in toto,” he added.
Karnataka, only a couple of days ago, appointed its members to the Cauvery Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC). The meeting of the Cauvery Authority is scheduled in New Delhi for Juy 2.
