Tuskers captured in Tirupattur released in Hosur forest

Two wild elephants that were tranquilised and captured in Tirupattur district were released in the Hosur forest range in Krishnagiri on Friday.

KRISHNAGIRI:  Two wild elephants that were tranquilised and captured in Tirupattur district were released in the Hosur forest range in Krishnagiri on Friday.

According to forest staff, the two tuskers had separated from a herd along the elephant corridor near Andhra Pradesh and had been wandering around the borders of Tirupattur and Krishnagiri for the past few weeks. The elephants had previously attacked and killed two people in Krishnagiri.

After this, it deviated from its path and reached Tirupattur over a week ago. For the past few days, the elephants have been camping in villages near Natrampalli taluk of Tirupattur district.

On Thursday, the tuskers were tranquilised and captured with the aid of three kumkis and forest staff. The tranquilised elephants were loaded into two trucks and brought to Hosur forest range, where they were released in Cauvery South Sanctuary near Pillikal forest range.
