HYDERABAD: A day after the brutal killing of a girl child in Wanaparthy district, a three-month girl baby was sold away by the parents with the help of a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP). The doctor brokered the deal between the infant's parents and the buyers, police said.

Police arrested the RMP and six others, including the parents of the baby, on Thursday. Police said the baby's parents, sold away the girl as they had two daughters already.

According to LB Nagar deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Tafseer Iqbal, Korra Vanitha of Sathi Tanda in Manchal mandal was admitted to Telangana Multi Speciality Hospital at Ibrahimpatnam and delivered a baby girl on November 28, 2016.

“The RMP N Shankar and the hospital administrator N Srinivas requested Vanitha and Jawaharlal to sell away the child for money. The couple readily agreed as they already had two daughters,'' the DCP said.

Shankar then contacted a mediator, Shantha, and asked her to find suitable persons to sell the baby. Subsequently, Shantha struck a deal with a couple -- Esari Ravi and Varalaxmi -- who work as watchman and staff nurse respectively at the Telangana Multi Specialty Hospital itself to sell the baby for Rs 35,000.

Of the Rs 35,000 cash, Rs 10,000 was given to the infant's parents while the remaining amount was distributed equally between Shankar, Srinivas and Shantha, the DCP said.

Meanwhile, news about the delivery of the woman and the missing child spread in the village and finally reached the police. A team of Ibrahimpatnam police raided the hospital and traced the baby girl with Ravi and Varalaxmi.

The RMP, administrator, the mediator and the two couples were arrested by the police.
