HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has cut short his 10-day UK-US tour after the Ministry of External Affairs denied political clearance for the US leg of his visit. Revanth, who arrived in London on August 20, was scheduled to travel to Boston on Sunday but has instead left for Hyderabad.
Taking to X on Sunday, the chief minister said he would speak on the issue after returning to Hyderabad.
Revanth was scheduled to visit the UK and US from August 20 to 30. After receiving political clearance from the MEA for the UK leg, he arrived in London on August 20 and waited until August 21 for clearance to proceed to the US. The MEA subsequently denied permission, stating that the programme proposed by the state government was inappropriate for the office of the chief minister.
The decision triggered a political controversy in Telangana, with Congress leaders condemning the Centre’s move. AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge also criticised the denial. Revanth concluded his London engagements on August 23 and left for Hyderabad, where he is expected to arrive early on Monday.
CM thanks Kharge, party leaders for support
Before leaving London, Revanth posted on X that he would “speak about all the related issues” after returning to Hyderabad. He also thanked Kharge and Congress leaders for supporting him over the issue.
Revanth said he had completed all scheduled meetings and events in London and thanked people for the support he received during his visit. He said he was returning to Hyderabad instead of proceeding to Boston after the MEA denied permission for the US leg of his tour.
CM urges diaspora to be ambassadors for Telangana
Revanth, along with IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, met representatives of the Telugu community in London on Sunday morning. They discussed Telangana’s development and future growth prospects.
During the interaction, Revanth called upon the Telugu diaspora in London to promote the objectives of Telangana Rising across the world and become ambassadors for the state.
The chief minister urged members of the diaspora to become partners in the state’s development and strongly promote the objectives of Telangana Rising globally.
