Recording over 90,000 new cases for two days in a row, India's COVID-19 tally rose by 75,809 in the last 24 hours to reach 42,80,422 on Tuesday, while a record 1,133 fatalities took the death toll to 72,775, the Union health ministry data showed.

During the same period, the number of recoveries surged to 33,23,950 pushing the recovery rate to 77.65 per cent, according to the data updated at 8 am on Tuesday.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.7 per cent.

According to the data, there are 8,83,697 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprise 20.65 per cent of the total caseload.

Tripura allows private hospitals to treat COVID patients .

The Tripura government has also decided to allow Rapid Antigen Tests at 17 private hospitals and nursing homes, and it would cost Rs 750 per test, the statement said.

Four more deaths in Himachal

Four more people died of coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, taking the death toll to 59, while 171 fresh cases pushed the state's infection tally to 7,832. According to health department data, three fatalities were reported from Shimla and one from Kangra.

Surat reports 265 new cases

The number of coronavirus cases in Surat rose to 23,158 on Tuesday with 265 more persons testing positive for the infection, the highest for a district in Gujarat, the state health department said. With six more fatalities, also the highest in the state, the death toll in the south Gujarat district rose to 906, it said.

Chhattisgarh tally tops 50,000-mark

The state reported 2,545 new COVID-19 cases and 12 more deaths, taking the statewide tally above the 50,000-mark to 50,114 and the toll to 407 on Tuesday, a health official said. Chhattisgarh now has 26,915 active cases as 22,792 people have recovered and 407 died, the official said.

2,205 new cases in Nagpur

Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Tuesday registered 2,205 coronavirus cases, a new single-day high, taking its tally to 43,237, while 34 more patients died due to the infection, the local administration said.

Gujarat's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,06,966 with 1,295 new cases reported on Tuesday, the state health department said. The coronavirus death toll of the state rose to 3,136 with 13 more fatalities, it said.

Goa records 457 new cases

As many as 457 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Goa, while nine died of the infection on Tuesday, an official from the health department said. Apart from this, 448 people were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries in the coastal state to 16,875, the official said.

    The COVID-19 fatality rate in Puducherry has risen to 1.9 percent with 12 more deaths and 440 fresh cases in the last 24 hours ending at 10 am on Tuesday. So far, 17749 persons have been infected by the virus, of which 12581 were treated and discharged and 337 died, leaving 4831 active cases. Of the 337 deaths, 285 were in Puducherry, 19 in Karaikal and 33 in Yanam. The recovery rate is 70.88 percent. According to the COVID 19 status released by the health department on Tuesday, out of the 2081 samples tested, 369 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 26 in Karaikal, 42 in Yanam and three in Mahe region.
