KCA Cricket Ground Built at SD College Inaugurated

ALAPPUZHA: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala  inaugurated the cricket ground, constructed by the Kerala Cricket Association(KCA), at the Alappuzha SD College on Saturday. Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakarishnan inaugurated the public function. 

Indian cricket team member Sanju Samson attended the function.  SD College manager J Krishnan presided over the function. K C Venugopal MP  inaugurated the indoor-outdoor nets. The inauguration of the sprinkler facility and players pavilion were carried out by G Sudhakaran MLA. The inauguration of office  and the centre wicket were carried out by SD Vidyasala president S Mahadevan and SDV management secretary R Krishnan respectively. The ground was constructed by the KCA at a cost of `3.5 crore. It was handed over to KCA for a period of 15 years via a MoU signed by the association and the College Management. The ownership of the ground will continue to be with the college management. The day-to-day affairs of the ground will be vested with a committee formed by the Alappuzha district cricket association and the college management.

Five turf wickets have been set up in the  ground. The distance from the wicket to either sides of the ground is 75 yards. Apart from the pavilions for the players, a complex for women players and indoor net practice facilities are also available. For the purpose of practising, there are three turf wickets outside the ground, an astro turf wicket and four concrete wickets. Besides these, there is also a gymnasium and a badminton court.
