ONGOLE: A childless couple committed suicide reportedly unable to bear the pain of not having children, in Srinivasa Nagar of Bodipalem area of Chirala late on Friday night.  According to sources, P Srinivasa Murthy (40) and his wife hanged themselves due to depression over not being able to have a child. The incident came to light on Saturday morning, when their relatives did not get any response even after knocking on the door several times.

Smelling something fishy they broke open the door and found the couple hanging from a ceiling. The police registered a case and sent the bodies to government hospital in Chirala for postmortem. Family members of the deceased said despite trying various kinds of medical treatments, the couple could not conceive. “We have come to know that the couple was worried as they had no children but we are yet to gather evidence,” said a senior police official.
