VIJAYAWADA: In a major reshuffle, the State government on Tuesday transferred 14 IPS officers and gave them new postings. New SPs were appointed for seven districts in the State.

Visakhapatnam Rural Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma, a 2010 batch IPS officer, was among those transferred. His imminent transfer had been doing rounds since the major Maoist attack in which Araku TDP MLA  Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MLA Siveri Soma were gunned down in Dumbriguda mandal of Visakhapatnam Agency on September 23.

It was said that the government took a serious view of the Maoist attack and the failure of Visakhapatnam Rural  police in tracking the movements of Maoists in Andhra Odisha Border areas.

Rahul Dev Sharma was now appointed SP of Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Maoist attack. SIT was set up to investigate into the Maoist killings and submit a report on what went wrong in preventing the attack and also nabbing the culprits. Fakeerappa Kaginelli, who was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (L & O - I) of Visakhapatnam City, was made the head of SIT. Fakeerappa, a 2011 batch IPS officer, was also transferred and posted as the SP of Kurnool district.

Another significant appointment was that of the Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which was being headed by incharges for nearly one year.  Kurnool SP Gopinath Jatti, a 2008 batch IPS officer, was posted as the CVSO.
