BENGALURU: Images of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Dr B R Ambedkar, along with a photo of Nagaraj adorn the exterior of rowdysheeter Nagaraj’s Sneha Seva Samithi office. As one enters the place, it is apparent that the place is fortified but furnished lavishly.
Three of the buildings which belong to Nagaraj, all located within 10 meters, have more than 10 CCTV cameras. Another 28 cameras are connected in and around his buildings and are hooked to a single network. Nagaraj’s followers and relatives who live in the vicinity always protect him.
The four-storey building where his family lives is equipped with CCTV cameras, metal doors, and grills covering the windows and balconies. Every floor has a iron gate with multiple locks. On the top floor is the home theatre where the family members watched movies.
Another building which houses Nagaraj’s office on the first floor has multiple entries. Similar is the arrangement on the other floors as well.
A local, who did not want to be identified, said that Nagaraj rarely mingled with people of the locality and it was just his followers who met him at his office. “He used to hold his meetings in the first floor. He kept the people he abducted on the fourth floor. Even the locals fear to talk to him or his family members.”
While there is suspicion that an insider could have helped Nagaraj escape before the raids, Additional Commissioner of Police Hemant Nimbalkar denied it.
“If that was the case, Nagaraj would have either taken the money with him or would have shifted it somewhere else. We are confident that the information was not shared with anybody,” he told reporters.
