HYDERABAD: Infosys Technologies Ltd., on Thursday, said the first phase of its 470acre IT SEZ in Pocharam, Hyderabad will commence operations in the next couple of months.

"Our first campus, spread over 50 acres in Gachibowli, is fully accommodated. The first phase of the SEZ will have a capacity to house about 5,000 employees. The facility is almost ready and we hope to start operations in the next of couple of months," said S Gopalakrishnan, Managing Director, Infosys.

Currently, the company has over 13,000 employees working out of its Gachibowli campus. The starting of the SEZ would imply hiring of another 5,000 employees gradually.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) here, he said, there is no rethinking on expanding Hyderabad operations in the wake of the recent political disturbances and the ongoing Telengana agitations.

The company also said it has instituted a team that constantly looks out for small acquisitions, as they can be easily integrated.

Meanwhile, Infosys said though the European debt crisis will not have any impact on the company, it still is a cause for concern and was hopeful that it will not precipitate the situation.

"We will not reduce our exposure in Europe, but increase presence in other countries as part of our derisking strategy. In fact, North America recovered than any other country over the past 18 months," Gopalakrishnan said. He added that the US and Europe contribute about 40 per cent each to the overall revenues of the company, while rest of the world contributes the remaining 20 per cent.

Dismissing speculation on acquisition of UKbased Logica, he said, "We have two goals when it comes to acquisition. Expand geographic footprint or/and strengthen services portfolio. We will definitely look at consulting, business process outsourcing and other platforms to leverage. From a geographic perspective, Europe is also on the radar besides other markets."
