MUMBAI: Cyrus Mistry’s office has denied reports that the erstwhile chairman of Tata Sons had filed a caveat at the company law tribunal in the wake of the Tata Group holding company filing several of them anticipating legal proceedings over removing him from his post.

Sources said reports spread about Mistry having filed the caveat due to confusion created by lawyers who filed the papers at the company law tribunal for Tata Sons, in which one of the papers named Cyrus Mistry instead of Tata Sons.

A caveat is a legal notice to a court to suspend a certain proceeding until the notifier is given a hearing.

A caveat in this case means no order can be issued against that Tata Group without hearing its representatives first, and is usually done when a party anticipates that someone will go to court against them.

Mistry was removed as chairman of Tata Sons, and Ratan Tata named as interim Chairman for a period of four months, till an appointed panel finds a replacement.
