With stud on his ear and the back then “really cool” spiked up hair, he serenaded the Indian populace across the globe with his fusion renditions such as I’ve Been Waiting, Oh Carol and Nachenge Sari Raat during the mid 90’s and early 2000.
Now, almost a decade later, British singer of Indian descent Tarsame Singh Saini, better known as Taz of Stereo Nation, is back in the country for a seven-city tour including Bangalore.
With the popular early hits and recent lesser known numbers to his credit, Taz comes to Bangalore. He looks pretty much the same as we meet up for a tete-a-tete before his act along with the sister act D Major at Club Nero. He is dressed in a flamboyant, black and silver jacket and the unforgettable spiky hairdo still remains, a little different though in 2010.
“Bangalore is a great place to perform.
I have been to Bangalore before,” says the musician, “about 10 years ago,” he gets precise. He is not fazed, when he is asked of not having churned out any major hit for a long time now. “I’m not bothered of quantity.
I believe in giving quality. I know I have to give the best and offer only the best to my audience,” says Taz, who has also tested his acting skills.
When asked what kept him busy all this while, he informs, “I did Larl Larl Buleeya for the Hollywood project A Wonderful Afterlife and I am producing my own Hollywood film, and a Bollywood film is in the talks too.” Whether he is just lending his voice or also doing an onscreen act in the prospective films, is not clear. “It’s to early to speak out now,” says the fusion star.
On the current tour, he says, “We are promoting the new album Twist and Shout. Two of the tracks — I love You and Dost Karleh Dost have got good reviews already.” On D Major, he says, “It’s nice to see an all-girls band from India. They are very good and hardworking.” Ask him more about the girls, “who’s the best among the three?”, “who’s the naughtiest of all or who arrives late on rehearsals?”, all he says, is “no comments.” So does he keep the girls waiting? “No I’m a gentleman,” phat comes the reply, before he goes on to rock the stage with his rapper partner Feroze Khan and Bhangra star, Shaad, along with D Major.
