BANGALORE: The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) will now be upgraded on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi
This announcement was made by the Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas, here on Wednesday
Speaking to the media, he said, a whooping `200 cr would be spent on the upgradation, for which `100 cr has released
“The government hospitals under BMCRI- Victoria Hospital, Vani Vilas, Government Dental College and Hospital, Minto Eye Hospital and the Nephro-Urology Institute will soon have a common corridor linking each other
“We have entered into an agreement with the BMRCL for providing a common corridor linking,” said the minister
He also maintained that the BMRCL will pay a compensation amount of `13 crore to Vani Vilas Hospital for acquiring 11,000 sqm of land that belonged to the hospital for building an underground station
“With that amount, we will set up a new block named ‘Metro Block’ in the Vani Vilas Hospital and also establish a park
The blue print for which is ready and the work is likely to get completed in two and half years,” said Ramadas
He said that a 200 meter skywalk will be built to link BMCRI with the Victoria Hospital
Ramdas maintained that BDA has assured funds to set up generic drug outlets and food courts
He said that Vani Vilas Hospital witnesses around 1,500 labour cases every month, and needs an immediate face lift
Therefore, initiatives will be taken to improve the facilities in the hospital
“Around `2.4 crores will be released to lay pipeline to carry treated water at Victoria and Bowring hospital,” said Ramadas
He further said, “The number of MBBS seats at BMCRI has been increased to 250 per year, so there was a need to increase space in the hostel as well
We will also initiate steps to ensure that the library remains open 24-hours for students at the BMCRI,” he added
