On Sunday morning, Margosa Road and the Ground in Malleswaram exploded with psychedelic rangoli patterns filling the spectators with joy and enthusiasm.

The preliminary round of ‘Ranga Rang’ saw more than 350 participants creating numerous designs and filling it with colours.

The event is an initiative of Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha, organised as part of the Bengaluru Ganesha Utsava. Judges will select 100 participants from this contest, for the grand finale of Ranga Rang on September 2  which will be held in Commercial Street and Shivaji Nagar.

“We can see and feel the vibrancy of India’s tradition here. The dedication with which the designs are drawn is amazing. We feel that India is full of artists,” said  Sara, a German national who was on a Bangalore tour, and happened to visit Ranga Rang.

“Drawing rangolis is personally a stress buster for me. It relieves me of all the sress and soothes my mind,” said Deepa, a participant.

Participants decorated their rangolis with intricate motifs and vibrant colours.

Most used rangoli powder, while some used flower petals, coloured beads and pulses to adorn their designs.

Designs of Ganapathi and flowers were seen in most of the rangolis while some had unique designs like Krishna and Radha, peacocks and more. “I draw my feeling through Rangoli. It helps me express myself,” said Lakshmi, a housewife who participated in the competition.

Most participants stuck to traditional dotted rangolis, while a few went out of the box to create freehand designs that knew no bounds. Some preferred subtle hues, while most went for bright colours.

“Here everyone has created designs which were so vibrant. I’m proud to be a part of this event,” said Lalitha, another participant.

“Watching these Rangolis fills my heart with joy. I came here so that I can get ideas and learn better designs,” said Sharada, a spectator.
