MLA’s gunman, BJP activist 'clash'

Express News Service

Tension prevailed outside Chandra Layout police station following a tiff between the president of local Wakf Board Committee and the gunman of Govindrajnagar MLA Priya Krishna on Monday.

Police used canes to disperse the mob. Refuting the charges, Priya Krishna told Express that the allegation was ‘false’ and ‘baseless’.

According to the police, on Monday morning, Priya Krishna had gone for an inspection to Gangondanahalli, which falls under his constituency. During his visit, Rafiq, a BJP activist and president of Wakf Board Committee, was monitoring the construction of a government Urdu school.

On seeing the MLA, Rafiq allegedly complained that the leader had neglected his area and picked up a quarrel with him.

Irked by this behaviour, Chandru, Priya Krishna’s gunman, threatened Rafiq at a gun point. Soon after, Rafiq went to Chandra Layout police station to lodge a complaint.

According to Rafiq, the MLA enquired about the ongoing construction work which was sanctioned four years ago.

“I told Priya Krishna about the problems faced by the resident. I brought the lack of developmental works in the locality to his notice. Hearing my complaints, Priya Krishna, was enraged and he shouted at me. The MLA threatened me of dire consequences and his supporters tried to assault me,” Rafiq said.

The BJP activist added that the MLA was trying to scare the residents, when ever they complained about the lack of facilities in the area.

“This is not the first time that Priya Krishna has resorted to such unruly behaviour. He is always surrounded by anti-social elements who do not allow the residents to speak with to   elected representative,” Rafiq alleged.
