BANGALORE: Karnataka Janapada Academy, in association with the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), has come out with three unique Kannada-to-Kannada Janapada (folklore) dictionary which explains meaning of proverbs, puzzles and anecdotes in vogue in and around Karnataka.

The dictionary will be released by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda at his residence ‘Krishna’ soon. Kannada and Culture Minister Govind M Karjol will be presiding the event. State BJP President K S Eshwarappa will be present on the occasion.

Speaking to reporters, Kannada Development Authority president said, “The collection of the Janapada words took nearly two years as we covered around 30 districts in the state. For every two districts, we assigned field editors and two field translators and through seminars, we collected nearly 2 lakh Janapada words.”

“Finally after filtering all the words, proverbs and anecdotes, we came down to 50,000 words and their meaning. For some words, we have also given pictorial representation for better understanding,” Mukhyamantri Chandru  added.
