BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association (KSGEA) observed International Women’s Day at Cubbon Park on Friday. The event was inaugurated by Nagalambike Devi, Commissioner for Silk Development Department. Actress Priya Hassan also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Organiser and President of The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association L Byrappa said, “Working women are suffering a lot due to government’s inaction. Women should have 180 days of leave under maternity benefits as against 135 days given by the state government.
The government should also give extra leave for women whose children are below 18 years. Apart from this, their children working for state government should be given consideration in fee structure for their education,” he demanded.
Referring to the problem of public toilets, he said he will urge the government to make some exclusive arrangement for it in this financial year. Speaking to the media, actress Priya Hassan said, “Women’s Day should not be limited to one day. Everyday belongs to women.”
“I am a successful person now and political parties approach me continuously to join politics and serve society at large. But I have declined that offer and want to direct more films and act for a few more years,” she said.
