Express News Service

The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecology Societies of India (FOGSI) has announced ‘Vision 2022’ as a long-term initiative aimed at making women healthy by 2022.

FOGSI president Dr Hema Divekar outlined the plans on Friday to tackle four issues under their ABCD drive - Anaemia among adolescent girls and pregnant women, Building contraceptive choices, Cervical cancer and Diabetes among women.

“Cervical cancer is the top killer among women in rural areas in India. Diabetes is another major threat to women’s health”, she said.

Women are likely to suffer from type II diabetes from their early forties, she said. FOGSI aims to encourage primary clinicians to educate women about shedding extra weight after pregnancy, following a healthy lifestyle and diet among other initiatives, she said. This is expected to bring down the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), she pointed out.
