The members of Forum Against Economically Weaker Section Quarters (EWS) Land Grab have alleged that BBMP has decided to hand over a piece of land measuring 1 acre and 21.08 guntas in total in Ejipura to Maverick Holdings Private Limited flouting rules.
Flashing documents obtained through RTI, secretary of People’s Union for Civil Liberties Arul Selva said, “As many as 92 families are living on the land which is to be handed to the company. A primary health centre is also functioning here. The BBMP and the government have to explain their stand on this issue.”
The activists claimed that they obtained the documents from the BBMP engineer-in-chief’s office on May 2. “The families of BBMP pourakarmikas are living here. The land was given to us and houses were built under government schemes. Later, we upgraded them. I am shocked by these documents,” Venkatesh, a pourakarmika, said.
Seeing the huge gathering at the spot, Adugodi police arrived and asked the activists not to indulge in any type of campaign. Corporator S Vijayan also came to the spot and assured the pourakarmikas that he will personally look into the issue. He said he will not allow any eviction.
BBMP’s engineer-in-chief B T Ramesh said, “We have decided to hand over the land for development to Maverick Holdings. But it is still not processed.”
