Labourer dies as granite slabs fall on him

 A 35-year-old labourer was killed and six others sustained injuries after granite slabs fell on them at a factory in Jigani Industrial Area near Anekal on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjith Mandal. The injured are Suresh Ray, Jadhav Mandal, Jagath Mandal, Anand Mandal, Rabi Mandal and Maheshwar Mandal, all natives of Jarkhand, police said.

The incident occurred at Beryll Stona, a granite and marbles factory, around 10 am when the labourers were replacing the granite slabs after unloading from a vehicle. Ranjith was killed on the spot. Suresh, who sustained severe injuries in head, was rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be critical.

The other five have received minor injuries. They all are being treated at a hospital in Anekal.

Jigani police have registered a case of negligence against factory owner Anjanil Gupta and Manager Raghunandan.

Maid Kills Self

A 19-year-old girl, working as a house maid, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her owner’s house in Shanthivana in Kodigehalli on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Chitra, a native of Shidlaghatta. According to police sources, she had come to the city just 20 days back and was staying in Kamalamma’s house, where she worked as a maid.

The incident took place around 6 pm when she was alone and Kamalamma had gone to Chikkajala to meet her relatives. When Kamalamma returned home, the door was locked and there was no response when she repeatedly knocked on it. She broke open the door with the help of neighbours to  find Chitra’s body hanging from the ceiling. It is said that her parents had come from Shidlaghatta and met her on Sunday. Kodigehalli police have filed a case.

1 Killed in Mishap

The cleaner of a mini lorry was killed and the driver severely injured when their vehicle crashed into a footpath and compound wall on West of Chord Road in Vijaynagar on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sampangi (32) and the injured driver as Periswamy. The duo hail from Tamil Nadu.

According to police, the mini lorry, which was loaded with old papers, was driven rashly by Periswamy and he crashed into the footpath after he lost control of the vehicle before ramming into the BESCOM compound.

Vijaynagar traffic police have registered a case.
