Power cut haunts people in many parts

Express News Service

A fault at the 400 Kv Hoodi power station operated by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) led to power cuts in various areas of Eastern Bangalore on Monday evening. Areas located in South and Central Bangalore also witnessed power cuts as power supply from these areas was diverted to maintain certain ‘vital’ installations in the east.

According to BESCOM officials, the power cut lasted between 7 pm to 9.30 pm with power being restored by 9.15 pm in a majority of the areas. Managing Director of BESCOM, P Manivannan, said that the fault was restored by 8.45 pm. “The credit goes to the KPTCL team. They restored supply by the time committed. Since it is a major station, we have to take the load station by station and that took 30 minutes more,” he said.

Officials added that the fault was in a transformer located at the Hoody station which chipped. The station is also part of the Southern Grid and supplies power to other states as well.

Around 620 complaints were received within this time by BESCOM Customer Centre.

Most of these were closed by 9.30 pm, the officials said.
