Goel stands by minister over 'snub'

Express News Service

Principal secretary to the Higher Education department, Rajneesh Goel, has come out in defence of Higher Education minister R V Deshpande, who was dubbed ‘ignorant’ for not accepting the final report on BEd colleges by the Bangalore University (BU) Task Force.

In an official reaction, Goel said the minister was right in advising Task Force chairman H Karan Kumar to submit the report to the BU Vice-Chancellor. “Karan Kumar had not sought for any prior appointment from the office of the minister and had suddenly accosted the minister in the lift with his report. Obviously, the minister was not aware as to who Karan Kumar is. Once the minister was told that the BU VC had entrusted Karan Kumar this job, the minister remarked that he ought to have given this report to the VC only. I was present when this incident took place,” Goel stated.

“However, it is made clear that Karan Kumar had not sought any prior appointment with the minister and he was trying to give the report to the minister in the corridor of Vidhana Soudha when he was leaving for the KEA to announce the Common Entrance Test results,” Goel said.
