Poornasudha Cancer Foundation, along with Rotary Bangalore West, launched Karnataka’s first on-site mammography bus ‘MOM Express’. Governor, H R Bharadwaj inaugurated the service.

“Currently in Karnataka, only large hospitals and a very few diagnostic centres have a mammography machine though mammography is the only way to detect breast cancer at an early stage. Less than one per cent of women have an annual mammography in the State,” said Dr Sudhindra, medical oncologist and founder trustee, Poornasudha.

The on-site mammography bus, equipped with a mammography machine, technicians, coordinator and a receptionist will start its journey from South Bangalore. Awareness camps will also be held to sensitise people about breast cancer across the State. If anybody is diagnosed with cancer, or a lump is detected, they will be provided with counselling and medical help from associate hospitals. “We will conduct camps on the first Sunday of every month,” said Poornima Sudhindra, co-founder of Poornasudha.
