Express News Service

BENGALURU: A guaranteed treat for history buffs, the story of Late Vice Admiral Nilakanta Krishnan, one of the country’s top naval officers who fought in the Second World War as well as the 1971 Indo Pak war, was released  in the city recently.

Titled A Sailor’s Story, the biography is edited and published by his son Arjun Krishnan, who is a finance professional in the USA. The book is based on manuscripts that the Vice Admiral had written and includes a prologue and epilogue by Arjun.

N Krishnan, who passed away in 1982, joined the Royal Indian Navy in 1935 and quickly earned gallantry awards like the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), which made him one of the two Indian Naval officers to ever win that award.

Krishnan received the Padma Bhushan for his efforts towards the signing of the surrender by Pakistani forces in Dhaka in December 1971, which led to the birth of Bangladesh. He was instrumental in the sinking of the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi at Vishakapatnam harbour.
