Soudha employees may soon have easier access to Metro station

BENGALURU: Easy access to their workplace is in store for employees of Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha who use the Metro extensively, if a proposal by the government to provide underground access to these offices from the Dr B R Ambedkar Metro station materialises.

A meeting was held here recently by Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav with top Metro officials to discuss the proposal. “The plan is to link the underpass at Dr B R Ambedkar (Vidhana Soudha) Metro station to the existing subway between Vidhana and Vikasa Soudha,” said a government source.

A top official said that nearly 6,000 employees work in these two buildings.  The opening of the East-West Underground Corridor on the Baiyappanahalli-Mysore Road in April has seen large number of employees switch over to Metro as the station is very close to their offices, the source said.

There is a Metro entry near Vikasa and Vidhana Soudha that connects the underground station through a long subway. Also, there is an existing subway between the two structures which is hardly used, documents reveal. There is a feasibility to connect the Metro subway and the Vikasa-Vidhana Soudha subway, it states.

Survey of the area has been completed and a general layout drawing has been prepared by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).
