BENGALURU: For alleged wilful disobedience of the court order, the Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered emergent notice to the Director General and Inspector General of Police Neelamani N Raju and the City Police Commissioner T Sunil Kumar. After hearing the contempt petition filed by Rakshaka Sena, a political party led by V Shashidhar, who is also the president of Karnataka Police Mahasangha, a division bench of Justice B S Patil and Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav ordered notice to them.

Advocate G R Mohan, representing the petitioner, argued that the members of the Rakshaka Sena started campaigning in the state. Since they enjoy overwhelming support from the state police family members, they tried to enroll the police family as members of the party, in view of the ensuing assembly elections 2018.

However, they were not allowed to campaign and seek enrollment of the police family members to enter police colonies in Koramangala, Adugodi, Mysore Road and other parts of the state. Therefore, Shashidhar had moved the High Court against the police authorities. On January 23, 2018, the single bench had ordered the DG, IGP and City Police Commissioner to look into the representation of Shashidhar on the issue, verify the correctness of the statements as made in the representation and communicate the result to him. However, they failed to reply. Hence the contempt petition is filed, Mohan argued.
