BENGALURU: Yielding to the pressure by students who have been protesting since the last 20 days demanding to scrap private universities offering agriculture courses, the state government has decided to bring amendments to the Karnataka Agriculture University Act.
To put a blanket ban on private universities or private colleges from offering agricultural courses, the government has decided to bring in amendments to Section 7 of the Act, which allows private players.
This decision has been taken after a detailed meeting conducted by Agriculture minister Shivshankar Reddy with department officials, where Advocate general, Members of Legislative Council and officials of the university were present.
The Act will be placed for amendment in the ongoing assembly and council session, said officials who took part in the meeting.
Meanwhile, over 3,000 students took out a protest rally from City railway station to Freedom Park on Monday morning and decided not to call off the protest until the government sends the amendment officially to the concerned department.
