Bangalore metro: Infosys foundation to fund Rs 200 crores for new station

Chairperson Sudha Murty met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday and told him that the foundation was ready to fund the Konappana Agrahara as it was located near Infosys main office.

BENGALURU: The Konappana Agrahara station, slated to come up under the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL’s), phase II project, will receive a funding of up to Rs 200 crore from the Infosys foundation for its construction and maintenance.

Chairperson Sudha Murty met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday and told him that the foundation was ready to fund the station as it was located near Infosys main office in Electronics City.

After the meeting with Sudha Murty on Saturday, a statement from the Chief Minister’s office confirmed that Infosys Foundation had agreed to fund the station and a metro railway track. The statement also stated that both the parties will sign an agreement regarding the fund on July 19. As part of the agreement, the foundation will maintain the station for the next 30 years.

In an earlier interview with The New Indian Express, Murty had said that she had always wanted to be involved with the city’s metro project and that the foundation intended to contribute to the building of the station near the Infosys office.

While earlier, she had mentioned an amount of up to `100 crore, the new agreement which will be signed, is likely to be of a much higher amount, according to the CM’s office.
