BENGALURU: A man has been caught on video brutally strangling a neonatal puppy and slamming it against a wall to its death in JP Nagar on January 9, in the hours following midnight. The absconding accused, one Nepal Kiran, hails from Andhra Pradesh, and works at a fast food outlet in JP Nagar.
While the body of the helpless puppy in question was found on Tuesday, seven more are missing, and feared dead. Locals alleged that they saw the accused burn the bodies, with any trace of them yet to be found. Vani Gopinath, a local feeder, brought the matter to the attention of animal advocacy groups, which rushed to the scene. A first information report (FIR) was registered by Puttenahalli police on Monday following a complaint by Manjari Chaitanya, founder of South Bengaluru Cares.
Disturbing CCTV footage shows the accused chase the infant puppy and manhandle it, with bestial sexual abuse not being ruled out, as per the complaint registered. He strangled the puppy on the ground, with the animal yelping in vain and then proceeded to trample on it, and then slam it mercilessly against a wall, at which point the lack of yelps points out to a loss of consciousness, or life itself. The recovered body has been sent for postmortem analysis, according to Chaitanya.
There is also CCTV footage that shows the accused repeatedly shooing away the mother, who desperately tries to intervene, to no avail. It includes evidence of the existence of the other puppies – missing at the time of writing – who can be seen helplessly surrounding the perpetrator in fear. The accused’s brother, Nepal Praveen, claimed that Kiran had left days ago and had not been interacting with the family via calls or messages, including his wife and son.
