Woman attacked by chain snatchers dies in hospital

BHUBANESWAR: A 45-year-old woman who sustained serious injuries after being allegedly attacked by two chain snatchers on the city outskirts earlier this week, succumbed in a private hospital on Wednesday.

The victim, Bishnu Patra of Botanda village, was targeted by the anti-socials near Labanagiri hills on Monday afternoon when she was going to a temple with her husband U Pratap Patra on a two-wheeler.

“Two persons on a motorcycle tried to stop us at around 12.40 pm and one of them slapped my wife very hard when she resisted. While the duo fled with her gold chain, she lost her balance, fell down and suffered severe head injury,” said Pratap.

ACP Krushna Palei said the snatching took place at an isolated place. Initial investigation revealed that the culprits committed the crime using a black Bajaj Pulsar bike. A case was registered and a team has been formed to identify and nab the accused.
