BHUBANESWAR: Medical seats in the state have been increased by 100 in 2026-27. Around 2,002 MBBS and BDS seats have been allotted in the first round of the ongoing admission process, Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) committee said on Monday.
OJEE committee chairman DP Satpathy said with addition of 100 more MBBS seats to the state quota, admission process for medical courses is being taken up for a total of 2,126 seats.
The newly-added seats include 50 each for VIMSAR Burla and DRIEMS Cuttack, he said. Accordingly, the seat strength has increased from 200 to 250 in VIMSAR and 100 to 150 in DRIEMS, taking the total number of MBBS seats under state quota to 1,972. Apart from VIMSAR and DRIEMS, MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH), Berhampur and SCB MCH have over 200 MBBS seats under state quota.
Besides, there are also 154 BDS seats - 100 in Hi-Tech Dental College, Bhubaneswar and 54 in SCB Dental College, Cuttack. In the first round, around 2,002 seats have been allotted, which includes MBBS and 154 BDS seats.
“Admission of students shortlisted in the first round will take place between August 28 and September 2 after which the process for second round will be initiated,” the OJEE chairman said.
He said the admission process for engineering and technical courses in the state has also been extended till September 14 in accordance with the revision of academic calendar by the AICTE.
Sources said the move is expected to help in the admission process, in the wake of increase of BTech seats in 2026-27. Around 10 technical institutions opened in the state this year leading to increase in seats by 5,000 and taking the total number of BTech seats to 53,000 from 48,000.
