The year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School came to an end recently. While US Consul General Andrew T Simkin presided over the function, the Golden Jubilee address was delivered by Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed. The function saw an assembly of dignitaries from different walks of life gracing the occasion.
“Our aim is to craft India as nation which gives good and quality education,” said E Ahamed. Started with 140 students and eight staff members, Don Bosco Matriculation Higher secondary school was established in the year 1958 by Fr J P Mallon.
Today, the school has over 2,775 students and over 85 teaching staff.
“To mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the school focussed on two major initiatives: A well equipped state-of-the-art hi-tech library for the school, and a youth hostel to accommodate 100 underprivileged boys at Veeralur, Thiruvannamalai, that is almost near completion. I am proud to say that both these projects were duly supported by the students, parents and well-wishers of the school,” said Fr Jaya Prakash Reddy, Principal of the school.
The hi-tech digital library, which is the first of its kind in the country, will enable students to refer to the latest periodicals, journals and online publications. In lieu of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the school had hosted various extra-curricular activities and sports events over the entire academic year.
As part of the celebrations, the students hosted cultural programmes showcasing their talents. A special laser show was also organised giving a light into the past, especially about the eminent people.
