CHENNAI: The All India Film Employees Federation (AIFEF) has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking better work conditions and pay for the film employees.
It has also planned a procession from Kanyakumari to New Delhi to meet the PM and discuss its grievances.
This was announced at a press briefing held on Thursday by Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) president and AIFEF general secretary VC Guhanathan. "A letter with five demands, seeking industry status for the film fraternity, eighthour work days, pension scheme for all television and cinema workers and higher pay are demands in the letter already sent to the PM," he said.
One other important demand was that the Central Board for Film Certification award certification for films only after the receipt of a certificate from workers that all monetary dues have been settled.
"We are waiting to hear from the PM, after which we will personally make these demands to him at a later date," he added.
On January 14, 2011, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will inaugurate a studio developed completely by the Indian film industry at Kalaignar Nagar in Paiyanoor, where a township for the film fraternity is being built.
"In an attempt to encourage more women film technicians, priority will be assigned to women in the training school coming up in the township, and sessions by foreign technicians organised," he added.
