CHENNAI: Major R Senthil Velan has been conferred with Sena medal (Gallantry) for his professional excellence in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir during which he foiled the infiltration bid by terrorists.

Major Velan, who completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tambaram, graduated from the Madras Christian College in 2000 and joined the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned on June 2002.

The Major and his men detected a large group of terrorists in a dense forest and eliminated a few from close quarters. He sustained serious splinter injuries during the encounter.
