CHENNAI: A handbook on burn management for family physicians, pediatricians, burn surgeons and plastic surgeons, was released here at a function on Wednesday.
Titled ‘Total Management of the Burned Child’, this book would be a bible for those involved in burn management, said T Ramasami, Secretary, Science and Technology department, who released the publication.
The book has a collection of articles by 22 contributors covering various aspects of burn management like investigation, nutrition, Topical medication and nursing care.
Priced at Rs 795, the volume has been edited by Marella Hanumadass and K Mathangi Ramakrishnan. It has been published by Paras Medical Publisher.
India has approximately 7 lakh patients with burn injuries, with children constituting about 18 per cent of the total number. Most of the burn injuries in children occurred due to neglect or abuse, revealed statistics.
Chief guest for the function, Arcot N Veerasamy, electricity Minister praised the valuable contribution made by Mathanagi Ramakrishnan towards the Burns Department at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
