CHENNAI: The Madras High Court today quashed the criminal proceedings against Sun Pictures' Chief Operating Officer Hansraj Saxena in two criminal cases against him, since both the complainants have withdrawn the cases filed against him.

Quashing the proceedings, Justice T Sudanthiram said, "In both the cases, the dispute arises out of commercial transactions. The defacto complainants have come forward for quashing the proceedings by aiming at amicable settlements.

This court feels that the criminal proceedings against the petitioner stands quashed."

Saxena was arrested on July 3 following a cheating and criminal case filed by Salem-based film distributor T S Selvaraj. Later, another Salem-based film distributor Shanmugavelu too filed a case against him.

Meanwhile, a local police station here has summoned Kalanidhi Maran, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Network and grand nephew of DMK President M Karunanidhi, for the second time to appear before it, in connection with some cases.

Police had, on July 13, granted Kalanidhi time till Jul 26 to appear before it after he had cited prior engagements.
