CHENNAI: Selvam alias Bomb Selvam, wanted for the kidnap and murder of former AIADMK MLA MK Balan, was arrested here on Tuesday. Selvam went absconding after he was released on parole. Based on a tip off, a team nabbed Selvam at Mugalivakkam.

Selvam was sentenced to life and was lodged at the Puzhal Prison . He was released on a three-day parole on December 15 last to visit his wife Amaravathy, who was ill. However, Selvam did not return on December 19 and went absconding. Prison superintendent Shanmugasundaram lodged a complaint and the case was later transferred to the CB-CID.

EX-SERVICEMAN FLEES AFTER CONNING RESIDENTS : A 62-year-old exserviceman, Chinnamani, from Selaiyur went absconding along with his family after cheating residents of several lakh rupees.

Police said they had lured residents with a promise of high returns if they invested in Chinnamani chit funds.

His daughters - Lalitha and Kavitha - were also involved in the fraud. They had collected `3.5 lakh from 100 residents . The incident came to light after Raveendran of Balaji Nagar lodged a complaint with the police that he had invested `3 lakh in Chinnamani’s chit fund and that the he had gone absconding at the time of repayment.
