CHENNAI: Director S A Chandrashekar, better known as SAC, was on Sunday elected the next President of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC). Some of the results of the much-awaited polls to the TFPC’s next term were announced late on Sunday night.

At the time of going to press, director-cum-producer SAC, who represented the Thayaarippaalar Nalan Kaakum Ani, was announced winner.  He defeated his opponent KR (A Kothanda Ramaiah) of the Tamil Nadu Thayarippalargal Munnetra Ani, by just 24 votes. Reacting to the news of his win, SAC, also the father of actor Vijay, said, “The council members have expressed faith in me and I will fulfil their expectations.”

Producers T Siva and T G Thyagarajan (both from the KR camp) were elected to the vice-presidents’ posts, defeating Kathiresan and Radhakrishnan of the SAC camp. Producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu, who represented the SAC faction, polled 74 votes more than Anbalaya Prabhakaran, and was elected the treasurer. Of the 775 members of the council, 651 voted.
