CHENNAI: Prakriti Foundation inaugurated the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA), a platform for emerging contemporary dance forms and artists, at Kalakshetra Foundation recently. The inauguration also saw a contemporary dance performance from Inhabited Geometry, by Delhi-based dancer and choreographer, Mandeep Raikhy.

PECDA was inaugurated by Leela Samson, Director of Kalakshetra and Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi. Samson said she was delighted to learn that an initiative for nurturing young contemporary dancers had finally been established.

PECDA is a platform for emerging contemporary dance forms, that will help artistes reach out to a wider audience. Along with cash prizes, the winning participant will receive mentoring by an international dance company. Participants may submit 10-15 minutes of their current work to PECDA by June 30, 2012.
