‘Replace ineffective college principal’

A recent report by a Joint Director of Collegiate Education (JDCE) has slammed the Principal of C Kandasamy Naidu College for Women in Cuddalore, an institution run by the Pachaiyappa’s Trust, for serious misconduct in discharging duties and has recommended that the Director of Collegiate Education (DoCE) replace the Principal.

Members of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) had petitioned the CM’s Special Cell early this year urging for intervention in the way the government-aided college was run by Mallika Chandran, the Principal. A protest was also held at Pachaiyappa’s College recently, demanding the removal of the Principal.

According to the report dated February 27, a copy of which is available with Express, the JDCE of Trichy Region, under whose jurisdiction the institution falls, noted that the Principal failed to follow government rules relating to student admission and teacher appointment. Benefits provided to the students by the government did not reach them in time and no efforts were made to rectify this issue.

The report said students were scolded using unparliamentary words. “Even when the college was devastated by Cyclone Thane, the Principal failed to visit the college,” the report said.

When contacted, officials at the DoCE claimed that the report has now been forwarded to the Pachaiyappa’s Trust for further action.
