CHENNAI: The Thiruverkadu Sivanadiyargal Somavara Devotees’ Association (TSSDA)in the city will recite the sacred Saivite scriptures of Thevaram and Thiruvasagam in the Shri Vedapureeswarar Temple in Thiruverkadu.
At the recently held association election, Shiva S Senthamaraikannan was elected president, Shiva M Periasamy Pillai the general secretary and Shiva G Pandian the secretary. A team of patrons, co-secretaries and executive members were also elected and a string of resolutions was passed.
The elected committee resolved to carry out clean-up work in temples in Chennai, Kanchi, and Tiruvallur districts. As a mark of reverence they have decided to go on a procession around the four corridors of the Tiruverkadu Vedapureeswarar temple carrying the scriptures on their heads on each of the full moon days.
The association will issue identity cards and hold a weekly spiritual choir every Monday from 6 to 8.30 pm.
It was resolved by the association to conduct liturgy in Saivite theology to tutor young boys above age 10 years of age in devotional hymns and conduct oratorical, essay writing and music competition each year. They will organise anna dhanam ( free-food distribution) and conduct anointment ( abhishekam ) on the birthdays of the 63 Nayanmars. The Brahmotsava celebrations spanning over 11 days in the 1,300-year-old Tiruverkadu shrine will also be conducted.
The association will hold guru pooja of the four pioneers of Saivisam viz., Thirunavukkarasar, Thirugnana Sambandhar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar.
