Some abhor it for religion, image

Young people who have never watched porn are a rarity. But they do exist. In this day and age, when porn is easier to find online than a college course (Google says that the former is more searched for than education), we take a look at a few of them and ask them why ever not.

Religious and societal reasons are one of the major factors for non-porn watchers. R Sai Prasanth, an entrepreneur, says, “I fear god may punish me, I am a true believer in karma and I practice my religion daily. Watching porn will be a hindrance to my spiritual as well as my business goals.”

Though there is such a thing as a private life, people are often worried about their image. Like R Anderson, a college student who doesn’t want to be called a pervert ever. “Once I accidentally spoke about Sunny Leone, and my friends started bullying me. I am honestly against watching it, and I have never watched it (porn) before. It hurt my feelings when my friends teased me. I don’t want myself to be called a sex addict,” he says.

Some others like Annu Vishnu, a working woman, find porn extremely hardcore and almost like a form of violence against women. “It is a vulgar way of love making, the word love is denounced here,” she says. Then there are some who find porn very unnatural. According to K Mithra (name changed), a post graduate student: “I feel it’s not worth wasting time on watching something so nauseating and yucky. It may be a natural phenomenon in the lives of people to have intercourse or orgasm, but watching something so ‘out there’ is atrocious. It may be entertaining for some people, but I cannot think of watching it.”

Dr Prabhakaran, psychiatrist and marital therapist says that it may not be for the best.
