The Lions Haemodialysis and Medical Centre was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah here recently. The haemodialysis unit has been established at the Guild of Service, Chetpet to provide treatment to those from economically weaker backgrounds, said one of the members of Lions Club. The unit houses five dialysis machines.

The Governor said, “The history of social services goes back to the birth of human civilisation. It is the brotherhood of man and the inborn quality to help our brethern in distress that gave birth to the growth of voluntary and social service organisations.”

“It has been reported that India ranks 32nd on the happy planet index. Surprisingly, developed countries like Japan, Germany and France rank low and even the US does not figure in the top 50. It is the bondage of unity and brotherhood that took us to this level. The voluntary organisations should strengthen the faith of social workers in social services and motivate them to serve with a greater sense of dedication and commitment”.

The occasion also saw the distribution of welfare aid to people from economically weaker sections.

The organisation distributed educational assistance worth Rs 20 lakh to 300 needy students.

G Manilal, District Governor, Lions District 324 A8, and past district governor M R Sivakumar were present on the occasion.
