A nostalgia-filled day, with games such as bingo, Sudoku, tug-of-war and a rendition of the popular elementary schoolyard game, 4-corners, was organized by the Dignity Foundation for senior citizens.

The “Companionship Carnival”, an event organized “To promote companionship, entertainment and discovery among senior citizens”, featured over 30 senior citizens participating in a variety of competitive events in order to build long-lasting relationships with their peers and also to build confidence.

Of all the games that were a part of the event, none typified the event more than the game of 4-corners, which was played with a twist, with an added corner representing the five chapters of the Dignity foundation — Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta and Bangalore.

Sheilu Sreenivasan, the founder and president of dignity foundation, said that it was because of the overwhelming response from the Mumbai and Bangalore chapter that a separate event in Chennai was organized.

Gopal, a septuagenarian participant at the event said, “It (the games) brings back memories from my childhood. I feel like as if I was a child again.” The games were followed by a discussion on the topic of live-in relationships as a trend in big cities. Raja Narayanan, a writer and a speaker at the discussion commended the efforts of the Dignity Foundation.

“It is a very good initiative which will help senior citizens to engage in interactive activities and I feel privileged to be a part of such an event”, he added.
