Express News Service

Touching upon land, sea and the many other treasures of nature at its picturesque best, the exhibition End To End brings together the concepts of land and scape. With artists like Agathe Patil, A Balasubramaniam, Dhasan and Dipti Pandey, the show is the second part of the gallery’s Temporary Custodians series.

Tracing the change from the times of BC to AD, End to End represents the various facades of nature. However, it would be impossible to forget the influence of Western art on Indian works, in the backdrop of the show.

For a long time, there have been names in the art circle that have explored the darkest realms of nature. Some names include Tumer, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Picasso. Some abstract and a few real, the works have always bordered on the surrealism of nature as an eternal muse. Indian names are hard to count as well –Tagore to KCS Panicker – there is no dearth of work or artists who explored the topic with great passion.

The show sketches the lineage of such works in the diversity of the approach. From water colours to plain topography images, the real and abstract join hands to pay a beautiful ode.

Sometimes as plains, as muddy waters and in works as grand as splendid mountain ranges, End To End is curated from many art collectors’ private collection with several underlying themes of nature, time and change.

End to End is on till June 20 at Apparao Galleries, No 7, Wallace Gardens, 3rd Street, Nungambakkam.
