Express News Service

A 45-year-old woman was reportedly killed by her son-in-law after she pulled him up for alcoholism, at his residence at Mamandur in Kancheepuram district on Friday.

Navaneetham,  a resident of Padalam village, had come to Mamandur to visit her daughter Meena, who was eight-months pregnant, after attending a temple festival.

Meena’s husband Iyappan (30), a waiter at a restaurant, was at house Friday morning with wife, mother-in-law and 3-year-old daughter. “Navaneetham questioned Iyappan’s habit of drinking using borrowed money. He got irritated about it and a quarrel ensued. He took a aruvamanai (machete) and slit Navaneetham’s throat, killing her on the spot. He then fled,” Padalam police told Express. Police said they had registered a case against Iyappan under Section 302 of the IPC and are on the lookout for the accused.
