Relief for first year medical students

Express News Service

The TN Dr MGR Medical University was directed by the Madras High Court on Friday to hold supplementary examinations within 30 days from publication of MBBS first year exam results and publish results within two weeks thereafter.

This would enable successful students to join in the II year MBBS course along with regular batch of students, the first bench of Acting Chief Justice RK Agrawal and Justice M Sathiyanarayanan said on Friday. A decision in this regard was made by the Governing Council on March 1 this year.

The bench was disposing of a batch of writ petitions from 14 second MBBS students, who had failed in the first year, seeking to implement Graduate of Medical Education Regulation 7(7) by permitting them to join the main batch of II MBBS students of 2011-12 batch.

Rejecting the second part of the prayer, the bench said the petitioners, having not attended the medical course for over six months, could not be permitted to study along with the main batch.
