Though residents manage to get water through borewells and Metro Water supply, some parts of Mylapore and Mandaveli are thirsting for better water supply.
Some in the areas depend on tanker lorries. “We do face some water shortage as the borewell water is not sufficient and fills just one-fourth of the tank. So, we prefer to get water from tanker lorries once in three days. They too are not regular and this causes lot of inconvenience,” says R Aravamudhan, a resident of Mandaveli.
“The water that we get is contaminated. We filter it first,” he adds.
Mangalakshmi and Sarada, who live near Mosque Street say, “The Metro Water supply through pipes is usually restricted to one or two hours and we are not able to get enough water in that short time. It would be better, if they provide our area with two or three water pumps.”
When CE got in touch with the Councillor A Noorjahan, she said, “We arranged water when the Metro Water cut the supply for two days for maintenance purposes. As of now, we haven’t received any petition seeking water supply or pumps; we will arrange for the tankers and replace pumps, if they contact us.”
