Express News Service

M P Purushothaman, chairman of Empee Group of Companies, Pudupet, and his son P Shaji of Egmore, who apprehended arrest in connection with a road accident on May 23 last, have moved the Madras High Court seeking advance bail.

In his petition, Purushothaman submitted that he was not arraigned as an accused in the FIR or in the altered report since the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to the company. However, the Traffic Investigation Wing, Anna Salai, had issued a notice asking him to appear before them on May 25 for an inquiry. The respondent police was biased and had included cerItain persons of the company as accused, though they had no role in the accident, the petitioner said and sought advance bail.

In his application, Shaji submitted that the car driver, who drove the vehicle on May 23, was arrested the same night. However, in the altered report after the death of the injured boy, the names of the petitioner and two others were included. The respondent police was trying to wrongly fix him as an accused in the case, he contended.
